Eating from a Vertical Hydroponics Farm

Over the past decade, whether we know it or not, there has been a huge increase in the effect that modern technology has had on the food that we eat.

This is not restricted to the way in which plants are harvested and transported. The most significant changes in food technology have been the introduction of genetically engineered species, and the introduction of hydroponics farming on a commercial scale.

The benefits of hydroponics farming are that plants can be grown much quicker, with greater yields, and in less space and using less water than compared with traditional soil gardening. This is particularly true for vertical farming.

Vertical farming technology is able to grow sometimes up to 50x more produce than what is possible with soil gardening. It is much like an office building, where if you don’t have enough room to expand laterally, you expand vertically.

Vegetable Garden-Healthy Eating from your Garden

The healthiest way to eat is from your own garden. As you grow your own vegetables in your yard, you know that you are getting healthy food full of nutrients and vitamins.

When you buy vegetables from the store you really don’t know where they came from. You don’t know what kind of dirt or other crud your vegetables have been exposed to. Are they even safe to eat?

In your garden you can control what dirt, pesticides, and waste products are in contact with your vegetables. A plus to gardening your own food is that you can only grow just what you like to eat.

We have grown a vegetable garden every year for forty years now. Through the spring, summer, and fall we eat from our garden. We can our own vegetables and fruits so we basically eat from our garden year round. The best way to stay fit is healthy eating from your garden.

Make Smoothies at Home

One of the best gifts you can give yourself is a healthier diet, but that is not always easy to do. There are many companies out there that are coming out with foods they claim are better for you and that are full of all that you need to have a healthy lifestyle. Because these are already made and rather inexpensive we buy them hoping to be in better health. Sadly, most are not what they seem, and the only way to be sure you are eating better is to make foods at home on your own. Making smoothies at home with all the healthy smoothie recipes that are available is just one way to get in the fruit and even the vegetables you need each day.

There are many companies claiming to be the best smoothie maker and there are also plenty of companies out there making smoothies for you, but most are not as healthy as they could be. Most have preservatives that you do not need, and they are not made with real fruit juice. They have added sugars that your body does not need, even though they may look, smell, and taste like the real thing. Before you rely on any food establishment to be making smoothies for you all of the time, ask about the ingredients and make sure they are all natural. If they won’t tell, you should not be buying.

Cooking Up Your Garden Recipes

Are you growing vegetables in your garden? If you are, chances are you are growing things that you like to eat or want to try. One of my favorite vegetables is tomatoes. I find all kinds of things to do with tomatoes and I don’t give away many.

Chances are you already know at least some ways you want to fix what you plan to grow. But when you run out of things to do with those zuccinis or tomatoes or beets, you turn to a cookbook for some garden recipes for all that produce. Or you look up recipes on Epicurious to find out how to cook rutabagas. How do you cook them anyway? A recent favorite of mine is tomatillos…they make great salsa.

Another garden recipe to use is no recipe at all. I just take what I have at any one time and put them all together with whatever herbs sound good to me. Just don’t ask me to do the same thing a second time. Actually, using your own creativity with cooking food is half the fun of having vegetables that come from your own garden. So be a little creative, both in selecting what you plan to grow in your home garden and in cooking what you grow.
