Soul food is one of the native cuisines of the United States of America. There are many delicious soul food recipes which have made soul food pretty famous the world over. People now associate soul food with black people, but 200 years ago, soul food was very different from what it is today.

Back then, there was no such thing as soul food. The African slaves who were brought to America also brought their native cuisine with them too, but over time, they incorporated much of the local cuisine that existed all around them. In particular, the cuisine of the native American Indians of the Deep South was adopted heavily, and their legacy abounds in the usage of corn in soul food cooking.

Today, soul food is a delicious cuisine that is usually connected to Thanksgiving dinner. The main items in soul food are meat and corn, with heavy emphasis on deep frying and baking. Soul food is regarded as very filling and heavy, but there are also many tasty dessert recipes that have since been concocted.
